What’s all this talk about Vision for Tourism?
Visitors to Nova Scotia tell us how much they appreciate our natural beauty and the friendliness of the people. This is wonderful! But is it really enough?
As operators and stakeholders in the Nova Scotia tourism industry, we need a foundation for our long-term future; one that is well mapped out, sustainable and offers opportunity for real growth. The NS Tourism Vision is about what our industry could look like by 2012. Vision sets the tone for gradual, but focused change; a tool kit, of sorts, for the evolution of our industry. Vision is not a company; it’s not a government body. It’s a group of passionate people within the tourism industry who believe that we need to change how we manage and deliver tourism in Nova Scotia.
In 2002 dedicated private operators and individuals from the Nova Scotia Tourism Partnership Council, Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia, and the Nova Scotia Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage identified core areas where increases in tourism revenues could be achieved. You will be hearing more about those 11 Key Industry Recommendations that challenge us to raise the bar in every aspect of tourism. The process is well underway. To read background information on the Nova Scotia Tourism Vision, refer to the document, Tourism 1st Nova Scotia's Vision for Tourism.
Many of the recommendations have moved into the implementation stage. It’s up to you to make Vision work for your business. Take full advantage of Vision’s virtual home, nstourismvision.com; a source of industry news, resources, and above all, an opportunity to exchange & debate ideas, stories and issues. We look forward to hearing from you.
